Greensburg - December 14, 2011 - Greensburg Community Bread of Life's Melissa Foist considers CCI Thermal's annual Christmas donation a "blessing."
Each year, the local business conducts a drive to support the local soup kitchen, CCI's Susi Patti explained. This year's drive began Nov. 1, Peggy Dudley of CCI added. Through 50/50 drawings and charity luncheons, the business was able to donate 526 pounds of food, $3,454 and 60 stuffed stockings for the kids, Patti said.
Foist noted that the patrons of the kitchen appreciated CCI Thermal's donation of backpacks at the start of school, and she knows families will be grateful the stockings this season.
"We have some families who have been asking if we have any help to offer," Foist said. "These stockings will be a big hit."
Bread of Life appreciates the support of the community through efforts like CCI Thermal's as well as individual donations of food, funds or time. The kitchen has continued to grow in its Randall Street facility with meals served Monday, Wednesday and Thursday each week. On average, each day has 135 meals to be delivered, sometimes as many as 150, Foist said, in addition to those served on site. While it would be wonderful if the kitchen's services were one day no longer needed, its staff and volunteers are glad to continue meeting the organization's mission - "to provide a free meal to those in need with God's caring love" - for as long as there are bellies to fill.
