Explosion-Proof Catalyst Pad

The X series explosion-proof catalyst pad has been approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) for use in Class I, Division 1 and 2, Group D hazardous locations and by Factory Mutual Global (FM) for use in Class I, Division 1, Group D, temperature code T2C at an ambient temperature of 40°C / 104°F, hazardous locations. The X series explosion-proof pad is available in the WX Series Cata-Dyne™ Heater only. The catalyst pad consists of a ceramic fiber blanket impregnated with a chemical catalyst and reaction promoters and stabilizers (the identity of these chemicals is proprietary). Temperatures in the range of 370° C (700° F) are generated at the catalytic surface.

The reaction stabilizers in the explosion-proof catalyst pad ensure that the fuel-in-oxygen (air) mix does not ignite; any hydrocarbon based chemicals, gases or vapors (applies to group D chemicals, gases and vapors only) which may be present in a building during heater operation are consumed in the chemical reaction. It is this feature that makes the X series explosion proof catalyst pad ideal for use in hazardous locations where ambient atmospheres are potentially explosive.

WX Series Heaters fitted with the explosion proof catalyst pad may be converted to operate on either natural or propane gas. Fuel conversion requires that the heater be fitted with the required orifice, gas supply components and rating plate for the desired fuel. Fuel conversion of the heaters can be carried out on site provided a CCI Thermal field fuel conversion kit is purchased (conversion kit includes installation and test instructions, gas orifice and rating label for the new fuel), or the heaters can be returned to the Edmonton factory.
